This series is about places that we've been able to visit because of our freelance lifestyle. This isn't just so that I can share my travel photos; there is a larger point! We have been able to take more holidays or stay longer because we could combine our work with travel. I want more people to get involved in online freelancing and I hope that this series will inspire you. Yes, you.
We've Worked in... Koh Chang, Thailand
Our friends Oli & Dani and I wanted to get away from Bangkok and Agi wanted to do her first Ultra Marathon so off we went to Koh Chang for a long weekend!
We took the bus on Friday morning from Bangkok to Laem Ngop pier and then the ferry over to Koh Chang. Oli was being a super modern online freelancer by working on the bus using his phone as a wifi hotspot. I wasn't quite so dedicated and read some comic books instead. A short songthaew ride from Koh Chang pier later and we were at our hotel.
Agi and I rented a motorbike and went to find the place to register for her race. It took a while as we had booked accommodation on the far side of the island from the starting point and, as now realised, the road does not go around the southern tip of the island. We got a nice tour of the island on the way there then came back and went to bed as Agi needed to be up early for the race and it was quite a long journey!
Saturday morning I took Agi to the race and wished her good luck then went back to bed. Mid morning I met up with Oli & Dani, had some breakfast and we went in search of some nice coffee. We found a lovely restaurant by the beach that did Lavazza coffe and we set ourselves up in true digital nomad style.
When we'd done drinking coffee and digital nomadding we went together to see Agi finish her race on the far side of the island. The roads around Koh Chang are beautiful and it was a lovely motorbike ride. We arrived in time to see Agi cross the line having completed 66km in 10 hours 33 minutes. A great time for her first ultra marathon!
Sunday morning was slow and lazy as Agi was (unsurprisingly) exhausted. We all went for a walk on the beach and lazed around reading books. Monday morning we were on the bus back to Bangkok after a nice long weekend.
